Make a Change – A Review

A key part of self development is reflection. By looking back on where you’ve come, what you’ve learnt and how it has effected you, you can move on confidently with new tools and strategies to produce consistent results in the future. So let’s look back now and see how far we’ve come.

The Process

Over the past 4 weeks I’ve taken you through a simple process that has included the follow areas.

  1. Working out what you want
  2. The Power of Goal Setting
  3. Getting Motivated
  4. Taking Action
  5. Working with  Beliefs and Visualisation
  6. And Dealing with Problems

Hopefully now you have around 12 to 16 goals, you have started taking action, you are thinking in a way that empowers you rather than dis-empowers you and you’re aware of some of the problems that may arise in the future. I’ve linked up each of the sections for you to go back to if you need.

Consistency

The real key to producing results in your life after you’ve worked out what it is you want to do is to be consistent. Whatever you do you consistently in life is what you become. If you want to realise you dream of becoming a dancer you need to train consistently to make it happen. If you want to be the most successful business person ever to walk the earth you need to find out the skills you require and practice them consistently.

I was in a school recently and I was looking at one of the notice boards that was displaying the levels that students could achieve within a particular subject. Being so passionate about achievement and success my eyes instantly went searching for the section for the top performers. As I read the statements that students were required to do to meet this high level I noticed that every sentence had the word “consistently” in it. To achieve the top levels in this subject students need to demonstrate consistently that they could perform certain skills. What a powerful life lesson I thought?!

To achieve above and beyond others around you, its a high level of repeated and consistent action that gets you there. That’s a nugget to remember as you move forward.

My Own Way Forward

I said at the start of this series, I am using this same process myself to pursue my dreams and I have already starting to see results. To finish off this series I’d like to share with you then my personal goals for the future. Below you’ll see listed my 16 goals that I am working on right now. I don’t share these with you to brag but simply to demonstrate that I too am chasing some big goals and dreams. I have stepping stones for a these but here is just the goals themselves.

1 Year Goals

  1. Be the best husband and father that I can be
  2. Complete my marathon mountain challenge (to raise money for charity)
  3. Finish my first book
  4. Become a motivational speaker in the UK working in both schools and businesses to a level greater than I am now (i.e for people to ask for me not just my company)

3 Year Goals

  1. Have £2000 in savings
  2. Go and watch a Welsh Rugby game at their home stadium
  3. Learn to Kite Surf
  4. Learn about Process Improvement and how it effects personal development

5 Year Goals

  1. Own a black Toyota Hulix (my all time favourite car)
  2. Write 3 books on success and achievement
  3. Canoe a river
  4. Go to a Tony Robbins Seminar

10 Year Goals

  1. Climb Everest
  2. Earn at least a million pounds a year
  3. Achieve my Master’s belt in Martial Arts
  4. Buy the house of my dreams

So there’s my list. I hope yours is as exciting.

My offer to you

So I have an offer to you all. I’ve wanted to make this offer to all of the readers of 6aliens.com for a long time but have never had a suitable situation, in my eyes at least, in which to do it.

We all need help and advice along the way. One of the most important things you can do is to ask when you need help if you want to get to where you’re going because you can’t always do it alone.

So my offer is this. If you want help or advice with achieving your goals and ambitions and you think I can help then contact me. If there’s a particular problem or issue that you’re struggling to work through then contact me and I will do my best to help you.

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional coach or therapist. I’m currently not training as a coach but I hopefully will do in the future. All I’m offering is advice or a friendly person to talk to. When I reach a point when I can professionally coach I will be offering this as a service but for now I am just offering to help. So if you need some help or advice simply follow the link and talk to me.

Live Seminar and Q&A

As a follow up to this series I will be hosting a FREE online Seminar and Q&A session all about “Making a Change”. The event will run on Wednesday 9th June at 8pm (GMT). Stick the date on your calendar and come and join me for my first ever live event.

Till next time…..

  1. This was a great series Ben. Gutted I’m going to miss your Q&A session. I’m sure it will be brilliant. It’s great to have this review in place. It will allow slow coaches like me to go back and play catch up ;) And remember to look me up when you make it to Cardiff. Llanelli is only a short train journey away ;)

  2. You can’t beat consistency in success, it’s the pillar to motivation (or lack of it) taking action (or lack of it) and evaluating your success (or lack of it). Glad to see you stating your goals publicly Ben. I’ll be watching (and holding you accountable for that Master’s Belt!).

    • Thanks Marc. Don’t worry I’ll post on here about it when I achieve my master’s belt. Bet there’ll be some life lessons to be learnt and understood from it

  3. You’re absolutely right- consistency is the key to achieving goals. When I get lazy with things that I’m working on, it almost takes me back to square one because I have to re-motivate myself to get going the second time around. Glad to see you have so many short-term and long-term goals. Good luck with everything on the list!

    • Consistency is the real gem Steve isn’t it. We can all produce results in life but its whether we can produce them consistently that makes the difference.

  4. Hey Ben, popped over from Matthew’s Tomato site and I am really impressed with not just the layout of your site but also the content and overall business mantra that is evident here. I love the processes you talk about in this post and will definitely be RSSing to see what else you got.

  5. Looks like you’ve got some great goals set here. Everytime you achieve one you know that you’re on your way to reaching the next one. And we all need to help each other because that is how goals are reached.

    Great post here.

  6. You have provided me with so many life lessons, and you continue to do so. For that I’m very thankful.
I’ve taken note of my goals, and reading your goals, I think I’ll add attending one of your face-to-face seminars in the coming years Ben.
I’ve figured out the corresponding time for your seminar. I’m currently in New Zealand, so I’ll be tuning in to the live online event at 8:00 am Thursday June 10. I hope that’s correct :)

    • Wow would be great to meet you Julius.

As for the seminar on the 9th I think because we’re on Day Light Saving Time that it’ll be 7am on Thursday morning – I’ll check and let you know though so to be sure

  7. How goes it Ben?,
Long time no comment! Busy Bee gets the theme.
    Site looks great!
As for climbing Everest! I don’t get it. Maybe I should. I have over 800 climbs myself. Mountaineering was always a lifestyle for me, never a goal! All of my experience is within North America. No 8000 meter work.
My thinking. Why risk, when I know I can do it. If I get killed climbing the mountain, than I can’t climb any more mountains.
If you’re hard core, forget about Everest. Take on K-2!
Sorry Ben. I know, another strange comment from that Bloggers Market Guy! ……… Take Care!

    • Hi Jeffery! Long to no speak. How the devil are you?

Everest is a goal for me and has been since I was a teenager. I love mountains and climbing. I fell in love with Everest when I was around 17 and have always wanted to climb its slopes since.

I’m defintiely not hard core and would stay off K2 because of that lol
